RouterOS: Understanding ‘Safe Mode’.

It is sometimes possible to change router configuration in a way that will make the router inaccessible from a remote connection and an access from the local console is needed to repair the mistake.
Usually this is done by accident, but there is no way to undo last change when connection to router is already cut.

In RouterOS, Safe Mode can be used to minimize this risk.

Wireshark: Allow unprivileged user to sniff traffic on Ubuntu.

Network Engineers simply need to sniff packets over Networks. Sniffing is not an option or a Lamer activity, sniffing is the base of Network Troubleshooting.

Using Wireshark, one of the best Network Sniffers (and more) could be tricky, if the software is launched from an unprivileged User Account since access to network interfaces won’t be possible (no device will be listed as available to start packets capture).

On the other side, it is strongly recommended to not run Wireshark as root for security reasons.

USB device over IP Network in Ubuntu: USBIP.

The USB/IP Project aims to develop a general USB device sharing system over IP network.
To share USB devices between computers with their full functionality, USB/IP encapsulates “USB I/O messages” into TCP/IP payloads and transmits them between computers.

Original USB device drivers and applications can be also used for remote USB devices without any modification of them.
